How to clean your computer? – Personal computers get dirty, they get spots on monitors, keyboards become sticky towers and collect dust. When the dust and dirt accumulate on the components of a PC, the air ducts can become clogged and the fan becomes coated with dirt. This can affect the performance of a PC, causing overheating, slow performance and noisy. Cleanliness is essential to keep your computer in good working order, starting with the keyboard.
Start by turning off the computer keyboard. Hold the keyboard over a trash can and shake it to remove crumbs and debris.
Spray it with compressed air between the keys, while still holding the keyboard on the trash can. This will remove any dirt trapped between the keys and any dust that has accumulated on the components of the keyboard. You can do this with a vacuum cleaner or compressed air cans that are sold in specialty stores.
Place the keyboard on a flat surface. Dampen a cloth with glass cleaner and wipe the keyboard. Press to remove stubborn stains and sticky.
Pour a bit of hand sanitizer on a cloth and wipe the keyboard. This will kill any germs or bacteria on the keyboard. This step is especially important if the computer is shared by multiple users.
Wipe the keyboard, leaving it to sit for at least an hour before putting it back on the computer. Do not use a hair dryer to speed the drying time since heat can damage the circuitry of the keyboard.
Disconnect the monitor from the computer and unplug all cables. Do not use any chemicals on the monitor, only those specific for LCD screens or warm water. use only as suede or cotton cloths for cleaning the screen and the back of the monitor.
Dry the monitor before turning it on again. You can just leave it alone to dry or use a dry cloth to do it. Never use newspaper or paper to dry it as this may scratch the screen.
Turn off the computer and unplug it. Let stand intact computer for at least 10 minutes to allow any accumulated electrical charge to dissipate. Touch something metal to the metal load of your body to be neutralized.
Unscrew the cover of the tower and remove the tower. Spray some glass cleaner on a cloth and wipe the inside and outside of the cover. Depending on the material of the tower, you may not be able to use this wiper. Use warm water instead, if this is the case and use a cotton swab to clean the air vents and fan.
Blow the dust off computer fan using compressed air. Blow dust from the back of the fan and out of the computer. Try to avoid blowing dust on the motherboard. Dampen a cloth with glass cleaner and clean the toughest dirt left on the fan blades.
Remove the dust that might be stuck in corners or components of the tower. Use small air jets and always try to aim to blow the dust away from the computer. Do it all in a more open place. Do not use a vacuum cleaner hose to clean a computer, as it can create an electrical charge that can explode or burn sensitive components.
Put the lid back on and turn the computer tower. Let it run for a few minutes to make sure everything is working properly. If the fans start making noise, turn the computer off, remove the cover and then clean them. When you are satisfied that your computer is working properly tighten the cap back in place.
